MARK LANEGAN – PHANTOM RADIO
$22.05
Mark Lanegan reportedly recorded much of his new album, Phantom Radio, using an iPhone app called Funkbox, but as “Harvest Home” shows, it doesn’t really matter what recording technology you’re using when your voice sounds like it’s been aged for years in a whiskey barrel. Phantom Radio is still Mark Lanegan, and the man is in fine form on the new single “Harvest Home.” The track provides a gritty complement to the smoother grooves of previous single “Floor Of The Ocean.” For Phantom Radio, Lanegan enlisted the help of friends and past collaborators. The album was produced by Alain Johannes and features co-writes on some of its songs. British guitarist Duke Garwood, who collaborated with Lanegan on their 2013 album Black Pudding, assisted in the creation of “I Am The Wolf.” Dutch violinist Sietse Van Gorkom co-wrote the trip-hop-inspired song “The Killing Season.” On “Floor Of The Ocean,” Lanegan’s girlfriend of the past ten years, Shelley Brien, joins him on vocals. Lanegan says of “Floor Of The Ocean”: “It’s rare for me to be moved by my own, but that song has a sadness that actually affected me when I heard it back. I’m very fond of it.”
