DAHGA BLOOM – NO CURTAINS
$18.90
Here comes Dahga Bloom’s new record No Curtains: psychotic sonics from the “other side” of the Orange County tracks. This psychedelic quintet aims straight for the head with undulating rhythms at full throttle. The term psychedelic is being thrown around a lot these days. Sometimes this label is applied to long-form blues jams that mellow out into some stoner epiphany. Dahga Bloom’s brand of “psych” blasts straight into the stratosphere from the word Go, bypassing all the KB haze and good vibes. On the album opener “Supa” the BPM’s are high as the Bloom turbocharge their capsule into the center of the sun, dodging space trash along the way. The frenetic pace and Lucas Drake’s scratchy, driving vocals might make you reconsider the wisdom of this journey. However, by the time your reach the album’s first single, “Space is the Place,” the anxiety has dissipated. Euphoria and enormous beats hold sway. The OC Weekly recently voted Dahga Bloom the best live band of 2013, stating that “the frenzy they conjure around them – akin to that of snake charmers in a pit of vipers. makes every set truly memorable. Paying their dues for years in OC has earned them the kind of respect and trust that ultimately convinces you to lose your bullshit too-cool pose for the duration of the performance, strip off an article of clothing, and do exactly as they say.” The band will be performing this spring at Psycho De Mayo, the Austin Psych Fest and numerous shows on the west coast. No Curtains is released via Captcha Records as a limited edition pressing of “astro-splatter” (via mailorder) and 160G black vinyl, as well as CD and digital download.
