Los Planetas – Pop

Pop is the second album by Granada-based pop band Los Planetas and one of the most influential albums to have emerged in independent music in Spain. Released in 1996 by RCA BMG, Ariola features 11 classic pop songs and demonstrated a taste for provocation in the lyrics with songs like “La máquina de escribir,” a sadomasochistic and misogynistic lyric; the ironic “Una nueva prensa musical” (A New Musical Press); and the humorously titled “Anthem of Generation #83.” It reached number 40 on the Spanish sales charts. The album was released on CD and cassette, and also on vinyl by Subterfuge Records, with an alternative cover.
