Manchester Orchestra is an American indie rock band from Atlanta, GA, formed in 2004. The group has released serveral EPs and three studio albums: I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child (2006), Mean Everything to Nothing (2009) and Simple Match (2011). For each of their first three albums, Manchester Orchestra had worked with producers Dan Hannon and Joe Chicarelli in established studios in Nashville and Atlanta. But they wanted to try something different this time. The band bought a house in Atlanta where some of them had previously lived as roomates, and spent money they’d saved to gut, renovate and soundproof the whole building, turning it into the studio where they would record Cope. They eventually did hire John Agnello (Dinosaur, Jr., Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth) to mix Cope.
