The Barkelliters – I Said Woof Woof Woof

$16.50

Here comes a garagepunk-record of a very different kind! THE BARKELLITERS are four doggish SATELLITERS-Fans, who cover their favourite songs of their favourite band on this debut-single – that way “Teenage Trashbone” turns into “Teenage Woof Woof”, “Shame On You” (originally by Neal Ford & The Fanatics) into “Shame on Woof”, danceparty-favourite “Abba” by THE PARAGONS in SATELLITERS-version becomes “Let Me Hear You Say Woof” and lastly we get totally lost in woof in their version of “Lost In Time”.

The Barkelliters I Said Woof Woof Woof vinyl is one of those records that arrives with a very specific premise and commits to it completely. This is a debut 7-inch on Soundflat Records, catalog SFR45 41, from a group of self-described doggish Satelliters fans who have taken four songs from their favourite band’s catalog and rebuilt them from the ground up, bark by bark.

The Concept Behind The Barkelliters I Said Woof Woof Woof Vinyl

The Barkelliters are four devoted fans of The Satelliters, the prolific Finnish garage outfit known for their deep reverence for 1960s raw rock and roll. Rather than simply playing tribute in the conventional sense, The Barkelliters have reimagined four tracks through a filter that is equal parts absurdist and affectionate. “Teenage Trashbone” becomes “Teenage Woof Woof”. “Shame On You”, itself a cover of the Neal Ford and the Fanatics cut that The Satelliters made their own, gets transformed into “Shame On Woof”. The Paragons’ “Abba”, via The Satelliters’ version, resurfaces here as “Let Me Hear You Say Woof”. And the set closes with “Lost In Woof”, a complete disappearance into the concept. This is garagepunk executed with full awareness of the joke and genuine love for the source material at the same time.

Format and Label Details

This is a 7-inch single pressed on Soundflat Records, a German independent label with a long track record of releasing quality garage, beat and trash-rock records in the 45 format. Soundflat has consistently put out physical releases aimed at collectors who actually play their records loudly, and this one fits squarely in that tradition. The catalog number is SFR45 41, placing it firmly within their 45 rpm singles series. Four tracks on a 7-inch is generous for the format and gives this release a real EP weight without losing that snap of a single.

Why Collectors Will Want This

There is a corner of record collecting devoted entirely to oddities that are also genuinely fun to put on, and this 7-inch lives there. If you are already a Satelliters collector, this is an obvious companion piece. If you follow Soundflat releases as a matter of habit, it fits the run. And if you simply appreciate garage records made by people who clearly know the genre well enough to playfully dismantle it, The Barkelliters deliver something that holds up on the turntable as well as it lands as a concept. Debut releases on small independent labels in limited 7-inch format have a way of disappearing quickly. This one has the kind of niche appeal that makes it harder to find later.
