Garden is the debut LP from LA-based psych-pop artist Dan Destiny. Recorded over two years during the early COVID era, the album combines tight songwriting with kaleidoscopic soundscapes. Densely stacked vocal harmonies meet squelchy synths, sideways guitar leads, and classic pop string arrangements in a set of songs exploring grief, the pros and cons of impending midlife, and rescuing joy from the jaws of 21st-century ennui. Imagine a lost Lou Reed/Robyn Hitchcock collaboration co-produced by Brian Eno and Brian Wilson, filtered through a songwriting voice distinctly Dan Destiny’s, and you’ll start to get the picture.
