If you want Guttermouth Covered With Ants vinyl on Double Helix, this is the reissue worth tracking down: a proper LP pressing of the band’s 2001 Epitaph release, licensed and brought back for the people who missed it the first time around.

About Guttermouth Covered With Ants vinyl

Guttermouth have been playing bratty California melodic punk since 1989. The formula has never changed much, and that is exactly the point. Shock humor, deliberately crude lyrics, and a delivery that does not apologize for any of it. They built a catalog around being difficult: banned from venues, kicked off tours, generally too much for anyone who wanted punk to be polite. Covered With Ants sits in the middle of their discography, after the band had refined the sound but before things got complicated. California melodic punk with an attitude problem, played tight and fast. The songs are short, the playing is competent, and the whole thing goes by fast enough that you are reaching for the needle before you realize the first side is done.

The Pressing: Double Helix LP

The original Epitaph run of this record is not easy to find in decent condition at a reasonable price. This Double Helix reissue was licensed directly from Epitaph and brings the album back to vinyl for a new generation of Guttermouth fans and collectors who want a clean copy. The LP format does right by the recording: the guitars punch through, the tempos hit hard, and nothing gets lost in the compression that crushed earlier pressings on CD. If you already own the original and it is beat up, this is the replacement you want. If this is your first copy, it is the right way to own it.

Who This Record Is For

This one is for the melodic punk collector who takes the genre seriously without taking themselves too seriously. Guttermouth are not trying to say anything profound. They are trying to write the fastest, loudest, most obnoxious pop-punk songs they can, and on this record they pull it off consistently. The reissue format means the album gets the physical treatment it deserved. Full LP, standard black vinyl, the complete 2001 sequence. For any collector building out the Southern California melodic punk shelf, this is a necessary entry and a record that holds up across repeated plays.
